Canada’s design museum, Design Exchange (DX), has named Faulhaber Communications Agency of Record (AOR) for the first ever Expo for Design, Innovation & Technology (EDIT). The biennial event will take over Toronto’s East Harbour (formerly Unilever Soap Factory) from September 28-October 8, 2017 to explore how the design can be used to solve the planet’s grand challenges.
Over 10-days, EDIT will see 150,000-square-feet transformed by thought-provoking installations, interactive experiences and engaging talks enjoyed by 100,000 guests. Supported by the Government of Ontario and its Ontario150 Program, EDIT will accentuate and propel Canada’s standing within the global design industry. The event will coincide with the country’s 150th anniversary, while marking the 50th anniversary of Expo 67 and the 30th anniversary of DX to situate Canada as a hotbed for innovation.
“EDIT is so much more than an event, it’s a cultural symbol of unity and the power of design,” says Christine Faulhaber, CEO and President of Faulhaber Communications. “Our team is eager to tell the story of EDIT and the larger role it plays within a global narrative of prosperity for all people.”
The concept stems from the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Global Goals for Sustainable Development. EDIT’s theme, Prosperity For All, will be articulated through a curated installation by Bruce Mau, one of North the world’s most celebrated innovators and co-founder of the Massive Change Network and Bruce Mau Design. Cultural leaders Carlo Ratti(Italy), Jamie Oliver (United Kingdom), Julielynn Wong (Canada) and Kentaro Toyama (Japan), will each develop an installation to support one of the four tenants served by the UNDP: Shelter, Nourish, Care and Educate. The exhibits will act as an “edit” of real world problems and how the underlying theme of design can help elicit change.
In addition to exploring five-floors of installations and enjoying future food meals, secret dinners and playgrounds, guests will also have the opportunity to engage in unparalleled debates, unscripted talks, brainstorming sessions and forums to become a participant in a pivotal universal discourse. EDIT encourages guests to become ambassadors for domestic and international human rights.
Faulhaber Communications was selected as agency of record through a formal RFP process.
