The Power Of A Positive Mindset

As one of the fastest growing Canadian companies (as featured on the Growth 500 list) we know a thing or two about the power of positivity in the workplace.  Happiness is contagious, and the widespread effect of a good mood in the office is beneficial for your bottom line and your well being. A positive workplace culture boosts team morale, increases productivity, and encourages creativity. It also reduces stress levels in the workplace – something everyone could benefit from.

This Monday at our weekly huddle the #faulhaberfamily, including those taking advantage of our #workfromanywhere and those in our Vancouver office, gathered to kick off the week. We went around the room and each acknowledged something we were recently grateful for. Immediately the Monday blues lifted and we all felt ready to take on the week!

The #faulhaberfamily promised that for the next 21 days we will spend at least two minutes a day doing one of the following:

  • Acknowledge 3 Gratitudes
  • Journal
  • Exercise
  • Meditate
  • Perform Random Acts of Kindness

After decades in the industry, I know that positivity isn’t one of my top strengths – I’m a glass half-empty person (keeps me working hard). That said, I try and get daily exercise and fresh air (running the stairs a few times on the way home after dropping the kids at school) and reminding myself of 3 gratitudes daily has become a habit. As a result, I instead find myself noticing the good which always brings a smile and a lighter vibe.

We know there a million books on the importance of positivity and advice on how to stay optimistic in the workplace, however, we’ve read “The Happiness Equation,” by Neil Pasricha, and “The Happiness Advantage,” by Shawn Achor, and would recommend the two! They both simply explain how our brain performs better when we focus on the positives versus the negatives. And how, if you can train your brain to do so, you will have an easier time staying motivated, engaged, energetic and productive.

Let’s see what happens when we train our brain for positive thinking!
