#WhatDrivesYou: Olivia Colacci

Now that the days are shorter and the weather is chillier, it’s harder and harder to stay motivated. What is the ONE thing that can get you bolting out of bed in the morning?
Starbucks. Knowing that my coffee fix is around the corner gets me up and out the door.
How did you know you wanted to get into hair and makeup? Any defining moments in your career thus far?
Makeup kind of found me. I was about five years old when I would steal my older sister’s amazing makeup collection when she went out even though she would threaten me not to touch it. I would play for hours with it and put it right back so she wouldn’t know any different. When I was 12 I spent a summer’s worth of babysitting money on the Bobbi Brown brush set; of course, I had to get the professional long handled brushes when they clerk asked which ones I wanted, because I just knew I was going to be a professional. I hid them under my bed for about two years because my mom would’ve killed me if she knew how much I spent on brushes. To this day, brushes from that same set are some of my favourites.
Some defining moments for me in my career are usually when I’m in Europe during fashion week. All of the people on Instagram that I turn to for inspiration through the year are artists that I work side by side with backstage. Having Karl Lagerfeld, Cara Delevingne, Sam McKnight and Charlotte Tilbury all in one room is always a ‘somebody please pinch me’ moment.
Any tips/must-haves for cool weather skincare, hair, or makeup?
When it comes to skincare, use a more moisturizing cream in the cold dry winter months. Your skin will thank you. Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream is my go to right now. For hair, carry around a bottle of leave-in conditioner to mist your hair when you get crazy static. It will tame those tresses. As for makeup, make sure your skin is properly hydrated and exfoliated before applying makeup! Your skin will look chalky if you put foundation on rough skin. Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant is my FAVOURITE!
Worst advice you’ve ever received?
To stop traveling so much and to settle down.
And the best?
Put yourself first. No one knows what’s best for you better than you.
